Enterprise firewall installation and Penn State wireless protection
On Wednesday, January 3, 2018, during an extended maintenance window from midnight to 7:00 a.m., Enterprise Information Technology (EIT) will be installing enterprise firewall hardware to the University Enterprise Network (UEN) in preparation for enhancing the University’s overall cybersecurity. This work will consist of adding two enterprise-class firewalls to the UEN high-availability configuration. During this maintenance window, EIT will be completing fail-over testing to verify the configuration is working as expected. Any possible outage of network connectivity outside of Penn State during this time is expected to be minimal.Â

On Thursday, January 4, 2018, rulesets will be applied to the newly installed enterprise firewalls to protect Penn State wireless. A ruleset specifies what services are let through the firewall, and which ones are kept out. This change is being completed in accordance with Administrative Policy AD95 (https://policy.psu.edu/policies/ad95).
